Experts warn Russian banks of multiplying strong hacker attacks

MOSCOW, Sep 13 (PRIME) -- Hackers have been attacking the Russian banking sector since early August in order to destabilize the country’s financial market, a Russia and CIS branch of French telecom company Orange Business Services said on Monday in a statement.

“Since early August 2021, the Russian financial market has been assaulted by constant large-scale DDoS attacks. The perpetrators continue to steadily raise the number and intensity of attacks and use not only well-known, but also newest types,” the company said.

During the period of August 9 till September 9, more than 150 attacks were registered, and they are becoming more fierce.

“The criminals seek to constantly increase the strength of attacks hoping that telecom providers would fail to clean traffic in such huge volumes,” Orange Business Services said.

The perpetrators use big international botnets, which are computer networks infected with malware. The experts found out that they are based in Vietnam, South America, Taiwan, Indonesia, China, Russia, and the U.S. The attacks on banks’ applications were carried out from IP addresses of Russia, Ukraine, and France.
